In addition, Dianne Dixon of Saint Johns, Fla., and Jim Gorrie of Birmingham, Ala., have each been nominated to serve a three-year term on the USGA Executive Committee, a volunteer group of 15 people that provides strategic and financial oversight as the Association’s policymaking and governance board.

In addition to Hammer, Sinclair Eaddy, Jr. of Baltimore, Md., has been nominated to serve a second three-year term on the USGA Executive Committee.

The election of Executive Committee members will take place at the USGA Annual Meeting on Saturday, March 1, 2025, in Pinehurst, N.C.

A Bahamian native who now calls Dallas home, Perpall is in his sixth year as a member of the USGA Executive Committee. He is the chief executive officer of The Beck Group, where he leads the international firm’s design and construction businesses. A registered architect, Perpall is a member of the prestigious American Institute of Architects College of Fellows and serves on the boards of FedEx and Starwood Property Trust.

Perpall, a past chairman of the Dallas Citizens Council, was a member of the Board of Trustees who helped build Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas, which has hosted the AT&T Byron Nelson. The public/private partnership that led to the club’s creation is an inspiration to its community, serving as host to Southern Methodist University’s golf program and numerous charitable tournaments and events, as well as the Dallas chapter of First Tee.

Perpall earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington. He is a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.

Hammer, a Southeast Florida native who is in his third year as a member of the Executive Committee, has been nominated as president-elect, a position created in 2019 to provide committee leadership succession and continuity.

A former first-team American Junior Golf Association All-American, Hammer played collegiately at the University of Florida and has qualified for multiple USGA championships. He spent 10 years as a member of the Florida State Golf Association Executive Committee, including two years as president in 2020-21. He currently chairs the USGA’s Championship Committee and serves on the International Team Selection and Investment committees.

Professionally, Hammer has been with Merrill Lynch for more than 25 years. He currently serves as the managing director of the firm’s Rubin, Hammer, Eaton & Conrad Wealth Management Group, which manages investments for individuals, families, foundations and professional athletes.

“I’m thrilled that Kevin has been nominated to serve as the USGA’s 68th president,” said Perpall. “He brings a passion for and understanding of the game and the USGA that will serve the organization and our mission extremely well.”

Current USGA Executive Committee members include Perpall, Hammer, Eaddy, Andrew Biggadike of Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.; David Dorton of Atlanta, Ga.; Virginia C. Drosos of Dallas, Texas; Cathy Engelbert of Berkeley Heights, N.J..; Leslie Henry of Houston, Texas; David Leitch of Earlysville, Va.; Bryan Lewis of South Haven, Mich.; Michael McCarthy of San Francisco, Calif.; Courtney Myhrum of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and Andy North of Madison, Wis.

Per the association’s bylaws, Dixon and Gorrie will each serve a three-year term beginning in 2025, with the potential to be elected for a second and final three-year term in 2028.

Dixon currently serves as engagement lead/manager for Spaulding Ridge, which provides business technology solutions for a wide range of industries. She previously spent many years with First Tee, starting as executive director for the Greater Houston chapter, which she developed in 2003 and has served more than 90,000 children since its inception. Dixon later went on to work at First Tee’s home office in a variety of roles and has been recognized with the First Tee National School Program Involvement Award and the World Golf Foundation Chairman’s Award for her contributions to the program.

In addition, Dixon served as a Boatwright intern for the USGA’s Central Region, manager of Amateur Services for the South Texas Amateur Golf Association, director of youth programs for the Houston Golf Association and as a board member for the Women’s Texas Golf Association. She has managed more than 700 adult and junior golf tournaments and oversaw all First Tee charitable activities associated with the PGA Tour’s Houston Open for 12 years.

Dixon, who has served as a USGA committee member since 2004, was a two-time Academic All-America golfer for the University of New Mexico and Northern Arizona University and went on to earn her MBA from the University of Houston. She has served as a Rules Official at multiple USGA championships, including the U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open, as well as at PGA Tour Qualifying School.

Gorrie is CEO of Brasfield & Gorrie, one of the nation’s largest privately held construction firms, which was founded by his father in 1964 and currently employs more than 4,000 people. Gorrie directs the firm’s construction projects and construction management services across 13 regional offices and 15 market sectors.

Active in his home state and community, Gorrie has been recognized by the United Way’s Tocqueville Society (2013), received the Associated Builders and Contractor’s Lifetime Achievement Award (2014) and the Salvation Army’s William Booth Award (2017), and was inducted into the Alabama Academy of Honor (2022).

Gorrie, a 1984 graduate of Auburn University, served as vice chairman of the 2013 U.S. Mid-Amateur and 2022 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championships at his home club, the Country Club of Birmingham, and chaired the 2016 USGA Men’s State Team Championship at the club.

If elected, Dixon and Gorrie will assume seats vacated by retiring members Tony Anderson of Chicago, Ill., and Deborah Platt Majoras of McLean, Va., both of whom have served on the Executive Committee since 2019.

PGA of America Coaching Center to Offer Free Golf Clinics for Veterans and Active Duty Military on Veterans Day

PGA of America teams up with Omni PGA Frisco Resort for Veterans Day discounts throughout Monument Realty PGA District

FRISCO, Texas (November 7, 2024) In honor of Veterans Day, the PGA of America is offering two free PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) clinics to Veterans and Active-Duty Military at the PGA of America Coaching Center powered by T-Mobile on Monday, November 11. These complementary clinics will be taught by PGA of America Golf Professionals trained in adaptive golf and military cultural competency and held inside the coaching facility in a climate-controlled environment. The first clinic will take place from 10-11 a.m., followed by a second afternoon session from 3-4 p.m.

During the one-hour clinics, participants will be guided through a series of demonstrations and hands-on exercises from properly holding a golf club to taking a full swing. Stations within the coaching center will also teach putting and chipping techniques, as well as show Veterans how they can use golf to connect with others and foster relationships on and off the course.

PGA HOPE, the flagship military program of the PGA of America REACH Foundation, introduces golf to Veterans and Active-Duty Military to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. It is the only adaptive-golf program that has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Veterans Affairs, which enables medical staff to refer Veterans to PGA HOPE as a form of therapy.

“I’m honored to be able to support our nation’s Veterans and give them something positive to focus their attention on,” said Tim Cusick, PGA Head Coach of the PGA of America Coaching Center. “Providing an inclusive and safe environment is invaluable compared to the skills they learn. At the end of the day, it’s not about their golf game but giving back to the men and women who have served our country.”

In partnership with the Omni PGA Frisco Resort, Veterans and Active-Duty Military can also receive the following discounts from Saturday, November 9 through Monday, November 11. Patrons must show a valid military I.D. to receive discounts:

  • 25% off at Ice House and Lounge by Topgolf, excluding alcohol
  • 20% discount at PGA Shop
  • One (1) free tee time on The Swing (Monday, November 11; 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.)

On Saturday, November 16, the resort will host a Veteran’s Day Supercars Show Presented by Sivils Luxury in the Monument Realty PGA District from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. The event is free for the public; however, all proceeds from the Super Car registration fee of $25 per vehicle will benefit PGA HOPE.

From November 1 through the end of the year, the PGA of America REACH Foundation – the 501(c)(3) charitable foundation of the PGA of America, will launch “HOPE 4 Heroes” —a national fundraising campaign to continue funding, and raise awareness for PGA HOPE programs that have served more than 50,000 Veterans. Restaurants throughout the PGA District will have postcards with information about how to donate, as well as information about PGA HOPE program locations throughout the DFW area. The campaign runs through December 31, 2024.

World No. 1 Clanton Among 16 Invited to USA Walker Cup Practice Session

LIBERTY CORNER, N.J. – The USGA’s International Team Selection (ITS) Working Group has invited 16 players to attend a practice session Dec. 14-16 for the 2025 Walker Cup Match. The three days of practice will be held in Jupiter, Fla., at McArthur Golf Club, Seminole Golf Club and The Bear’s Club.

The following 16 players have accepted invitations to the practice session (with college affiliation):

  • Evan Beck, 34, of Virginia Beach, Va. (Wake Forest, class of 2013)
  • Parker Bell, 20, of Tallahassee, Fla. (Florida, junior)
  • Blades Brown, 17, of Nashville, Tenn. (high school class of 2026)
  • Luke Clanton, 20, of Hialeah, Fla. (Florida State, junior)
  • Ethan Fang, 19, of Plano, Texas (Oklahoma State, sophomore)
  • Stewart Hagestad, 33, of Newport Beach, Calif. (Southern California, class of 2013)
  • Max Herendeen, 19, of Bellevue, Wash. (Illinois, sophomore)
  • Ben James, 21, of Milford, Conn. (Virginia, junior)
  • Noah Kent, 20, of Naples, Fla. (Iowa, sophomore)
  • Jackson Koivun, 19, of Chapel Hill, N.C. (Auburn, sophomore)
  • Michael La Sasso, 20, of Raleigh, N.C. (Ole Miss, junior)
  • Bryan Lee, 20, of Fairfax, Va. (Virginia, junior)
  • Tommy Morrison, 20, of Dallas, Texas (Texas, junior)
  • Jase Summy, 20, of Keller, Texas (Oklahoma, junior)
  • Brendan Valdes, 21, of Orlando, Fla. (Auburn, senior)
  • Jackson Van Paris, 21, of Pinehurst, N.C. (Vanderbilt, senior)

Clanton, the 2024 McCormack Medal winner and current No. 1-ranked amateur, highlights the group of invites. Over the summer, he became the first amateur to record consecutive top 10s on the PGA Tour since 1958. A week after finishing T-10 in the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic, the Florida State All-American finished runner-up in the John Deere Classic. He also made his U.S. Open debut at Pinehurst and became the first amateur in championship history to record consecutive rounds in the 60s with back-to-back 69s in the second and third rounds.

Hagestad, a three-time USGA champion (2016, 2021 and 2023 U.S. Mid-Amateur) is one of two players with previous Walker Cup experience (2017, 2019, 2021, 2023) to be invited to the practice session, joining Ben James (2023).

“This serves as another step in the process of team selection and is an opportunity for all involved to become more familiar with each other and begin to build team camaraderie,” said John Bodenhamer, USGA chief championships officer. “These decorated amateurs represent a talented group of potential team members, but we expect others will also be considered as the selection process moves toward its conclusion.”

Nathan Smith, of Pittsburgh, Pa., will captain the USA Team for the 2025 Walker Cup Match. He has won four U.S. Mid-Amateur Championships (2003, 2009, 2010, 2012) as well as the inaugural 2015 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship, with partner Todd White.

“The amateur golf talent in this country is impressive, and I’m thrilled to gather with this group for a practice session next month,” said Smith. “We have a strong list of young men attending; a mixture of seasoned veterans as well as up-and-comers of the game. I’m excited to spend more time with this group.”

The USGA also announced that Smith will be retained as captain for the 2026 Walker Cup Match at Lahinch Golf Club in Ireland. It was announced previously that due to other international competitions, including the re-emergence of the Olympics, that the Walker Cup would be moved to even years beginning in 2026.

“Given the tight turnaround between the 2025 and 2026 Matches, it was clear to us that Nathan should return as captain and provide the team with a consistent leader during the unique situation of two Walker Cups in two years,” said Bodenhamer.

One of the most decorated mid-amateurs in the country, Smith has competed in 48 USGA championships, six State Team championships and played on three consecutive Walker Cup Teams (2009, 2011, 2013), earning the clinching point in the 2013 USA victory at the National Golf Links of America in Southampton, N.Y. In the USA’s 2009 Walker Cup victory at Merion Golf Club, Smith won two foursomes matches with partner Peter Uihlein. His singles victory over GB&I’s Nathan Kimsey provided the winning point in the USA’s 17-9 triumph in 2013. Smith amassed a 3-4-1 record in his three Walker Cup Matches.

An invitation to the Walker Cup practice session does not guarantee selection to the team. Players not invited will also be considered for inclusion on the team. Seven of the 16 players from the December 2022 Walker Cup practice session competed on the 2023 USA Team, when the USA defeated Great Britain and Ireland, 14.5 to 11.5, at The Old Course in Scotland. Ten of the 16 players from the December 2020 Walker Cup practice session competed on the 2021 USA Team that defeated Great Britain and Ireland, 14-12, at Seminole.

The 50th Match will be played at the Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, Calif., on Sept. 6-7, 2025. The Match is played over two days with 18 singles matches and eight foursomes (alternate-shot) matches. The USA leads the overall series that began in 1922, 39-9-1, but it has been tremendously competitive over the last three decades, with the USA holding just a 11-7 advantage in the Match since 1989. The R&A will select the 10 members of the GB&I Team, which represents England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
